Franschhoek

Situated about 90km from Cape Town, find the quaint French town called Franschhoek. Everything about this town has a French flair to it. Most farms in the valley has a French name. This is one of the epicenters of the best wineland country in the Western Cape. You are on a journey to reconnect the past with the present. This is the home where the first French Huguenots arrived in 1648.  This is where the French Huguenot Monument is located at the end of the main road.  This is the home of the top 20% of the best cuisine chef’s in South Africa.  French tourists, including other tourists, will find this town very captivating.  Franschhoek is regarded as one of the top 5 destinations in Cape Town, Robben Island, V&A Waterfront, Cape Point and Table Mountain with its cable car, being the other four.

Every continent houses wines grown from this famous valley. This picturesque town is surrounded by awesome & encumbering mountain ranges. Driving into the quaint town you find the popular wine farms on either side of the road, offering the best of Cape hospitality.  Stop & taste and test the wine & the farmlands.  Every stop is a unique tasting experience.

Franschhoek is soaked in history. The museum situated close to the Franschhoek monument tells the whole story. Any visitor, who comes to Cape Town and has not visited this valley, has missed out on one of the best palette experiences you can explore.

We recommend a day trip away from the ordinary. Pack only your camera & you’re walking shoes because you have a town rich in entertainment awaiting you to explore on foot. From the unique African craft shops to the many coffee shops & restaurants to the local artists’ selling the wares they have created.  Pottery, African garments; jewelry; fine art at you finger tips. There are no big shopping centres here only the country experience, once forgotten. Once a year this town showcases a spectacular festival.

You can lose the concept of time here in the fresh valley where mountains & lush greenery are all around. Most farms have a guest house or coffee shop so take time to explore, have breakfast at the wine country restaurants. Enjoy the top wines from chardonnay to Shiraz. You are guaranteed to enrich your taste buds. While you enjoy the history & culture visit the Barnyard theatre & enjoy the comedy festivals or many other musical experiences at the La Motte farm. Eat at the top chefs’ eateries. Reuben’s’[voted the top chef of the year for 2005/2006] is a fine dining experience personally recommended by Atlantic Breeze owners as this popular restaurant offers a deli, bar & gourmet restaurant. You are expected when we book your seat for the opportunity to taste only the best in cuisine this valley has to offer. The other famous Restaurant is La Petit Ferme, which has for years been voted one of the top 5 restaurants in Cape Town.  You are truly spoilt for choice in this small French Town.
